Contraceptive Corner #1 - The Condom

In this category, I'm going to discuss contraceptives and the issues that surround them. At first, I might just discuss different types of contraceptives and how they work, but later on, after I've described a few different types, I might get more in-depth on the various issues that surround contraceptives.

Giant Condom Balloon used above Lichtenvoorde, Netherlands. There is currently no other male-used contraceptive in the United States that can be purchased without a prescription other than the condom. While condoms resemble balloons and people often greatly entertain themselves by blowing them up and creating condom-balloon art, this is clearly not what the condom is for. In case there is the chance that you don; know what a condom is, it is a thin rubber sleeve that is placed over a man's penis prior to sex to serve as a barrier which prevents semen from entering the uterus through a woman's cervix and coming into contact with her vagina and bodily fluids. Condoms are used for preventing the spread of STDs and pregnancy prevention (the latter is what the word 'contraceptive' means).

Condoms are also one of the oldest known contraceptive devices, with early condoms (which were far less In Honor of World AIDS day, the Buenos Aires Oblisk was covered in a giant condom.effective than they are today and made with very different materials) dating back to over 500 years ago (with some evidence that indicates it dates back even farther than that, perhaps in the thousands of years ago range).

The most popular condoms right now include latex, polyurethane and goatskin condoms. Goatskin condoms are claimed to feel more natural while latex condoms tend to be less expensive to make and more elastic (stretchy) and polyurethane tend to be thinner, more effective and inhibit sensations less. Each type tends to have its own benefits.

To put on a condom:

1) Very carefully open the condom wrapper, making sure that you don't tear the condom inside in all your excitement.

2) Make sure that the penis is fully erect.

3) Take the rolled up condom and make sure that you know which way it unrolls (don't unroll it just yet, just know which direction you will be unrolling it in a moment).

In an effort to thwart the evil plans of the Monster Sperm, Betty invested in a Guard-Condom.4) Pinch the tip of the condom between two fingers on the side that will be away from your penis and hold the pinched part, this will allow some space for your semen to go so that you don't break the condom due to pressure when you cum. Yes, there is a little resevoir in the tip of the condom for this, but people sometimes tend to pull the condom on so snug that the resevoir is not as efficient and/or they trap air in the resevoir (which defeats the purpose), so be sure that you do this.

5) While still pinching the tip, place the condom on the head of your penis and unroll the condom over the penis, making sure that you unroll it all the way to the base of your shaft.

6) Be sure that while you're using the condom it does not slide around; it is a good idea to periodically check on it if you're using it for a long time to ensure that it has remained in place.

7) Once you have ejaculated or are finished using the condom, firmly grasp the condom at the base of your penis and slide it off. Tie the condom closed and dispose of it appropriately (in the garbage).

There is much more to be said about condoms, so I'm sure we will return to this topic at some future date. For now, though, I will let you absorb this information so that I don't overwhelm you.
