Get Yourself A Girlfriend For $24.99 A Month

I did not know that this was such a problem that they had to create an app for it. I’m talking about the Invisible Girlfriend and Invisible Boyfriend app. According to their websites, “Invisible Boyfriend/Girlfriend gives you real-world and social proof that you’re in a relationship – even if you’re not – so you can get back to living life on your own terms.

Well, if after their research they found that this was such a problem that people were willing to pay for the service, then ok. I apparently don’t know the kind of pressure nosy relatives can inflict on a person.

So here we are now, with a mildly creepy app that you can use to fool your friends, family and others into thinking that you have a boyfriend or girlfriend (the app is LGBT friendly) and all for only $24.99 a month. If you feel inclined you can also gift this service for a month to a friend whom you think is in need of a fake partner for just $29.99.

How it works is that you sign up and create yourself a fake partner by picking their name, age, photo, and personality trait. You can also create a backstory for how you met or you can let the site decide. For $24.99 you get 100 texts, 10 voicemails and 1 handwritten postcard. Although who sends postcards anymore? Or maybe that’s just me?

Anyway, the idea for the site came about when co-founder Matt Homan pitched it at St. Louis Startup Weekend 2013 and won. A team of five strangers were assembled and now here we are – never will you have to worry about your nosy relatives all up in your relationship biznaz.

If you don’t have nosy relatives, then according to their blog, the service can also be used in other ways. It “creates a safe space for you to practice texting with a real human if you’re out of practice,” and if you need something to nudge a partner who can’t commit,  “Sometimes it even inspires just enough jealousy to jolt that special person into committing.

Currently it’s only available for people who have US and Canadian numbers, but will be available in more countries soon. Can’t. Wait.
