A super hot teacher is something every teenage boy dreams about. It was true for David Lee Roth 30 years ago, and it’s still every bit as true for any kid with uncontrollable hormones and an attention span issue (roughly 100% of teenagers, give or take a decimal point.)

That’s why, with the rapidly changing times and an over-sexed culture, school book publishers have had to make subtle changes to the presentation of their products in order to sell more units. Having a really hot girl playing a teacher on the cover of your textbook, seems like a reasonable move in that direction.

A college book in Thailand, simply named “Basic Mathematics”, featured a very attractive young school teacher on the cover. And while the publisher, Muang Thai Book, originally claimed the shot was taken from Google Images, the model in the photo happened to be Japanese porn star Mana Aoki, and the picture was actually a still from her adult movie Costume Play Working Girl.

Japanese Porn Star "Accidentally" Ends Up on Textbook

As you would expect, soon enough someone familiar with the work of Ms. Aoki was bound to discover the crossover image. A Twitter user named T3Thee was the first to report Aoki’s educational cameo. Some of the other not-so SFW shots from the same scene were a little more revealing.

About 3,000 copies of the book had already been sent out to 10 universities in Thailand by the time the authorities became aware of it. According to the Toronto Sun, Chaipruek Serirak, secretary general of the Vocational Education Commission, told a Thai website that those thousands of items will be recalled, and the book will be reissued with a non-porn related cover, in what seems like a rather unnecessary hassle.

“We will recall the problematic textbooks from every college that purchased them, and we will ship textbooks with new covers to them,” Serirak said. “The cover and book design will only use drawings or photos taken by the compilers. There will be no more searching for images on the Internet.”

I love the highly likely idea of a chain of events that started with a designer saying, “Fuck it, let’s just use Mana Aoki’s picture and tag ‘Mathematics’ up front. They won’t know. She looks smart. Let’s take lunch!” Then someone had to approve the design; and — what’s perhaps more baffling — somebody had to actually pay for the rights to use the picture to the porn company that owns the image, while all parties involved in the mishap seemed to prefer to act confused about it.

And hey, even if the publicity obtained by this is not what an educational publisher wants to be known for, at least they got all kinds of people talking about a math book on the Internet, which is more than most publishers in that genre can say for themselves.
