Movies We're Looking Forward To In 2015

With movies it’s always best to plan ahead. Given that Hollywood tends to allow their releases to bottleneck at times, it’s best to have some idea of what you want to go and see in the next few months. Hitting up the cinema can be an expensive hobby these days, so if you want to spread your dough a little thinner then this handy guide of ten of the most eagerly anticipated films coming out in 2015 might just be the thing you need.

There are the usual numbers of sequels and remakes heading our way, but the difference in 2015 is that a good portion of them actually excite us and leave us begging for more!

The Hateful Eight

Ah yes, the movie that almost never made it. A script leak in 2014 saw Quentin Tarantino throw his toys out of the pram and state that this gun-totin’ and most-likely-very-bloody Western would only see the light of day as a novel.

After what can best be described as a ‘cooling off period’, Tarantino embraced the script leak, organized a group reading at the Ace Hotel, Los Angeles, and since November, The Hateful Eight has been shooting.

Tarantino has returned to his regular stable of actors to portray the Civil War-era roughnecks, with Michael Madsen, Samuel L. Jackson and Tim Roth fitting alongside Kurt Russell, star of 2007’s Death Proof.

Tarantino has stated in interviews that he will retire after the release of his upcoming 10th movie, so this may be the last chance we get to see one of the modern masters in their element.

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

Well OBVIOUSLY we were going to talk about this one again. It’s primed to be THE movie event of the year and hopefully a chance to right the millions of wrongs that we suffered through in the prequels.

With the Star Wars franchise now owned by Disney, and the film helmed by JJ Abrams, things are looking fantastic for the galaxy far, far away. But what do we know so far?

Not a great deal, as it happens. We DO know that Mark Hammill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher will be reprising the roles that made them household names in the late 1970s, but we are not aware as to what events have led them here, or indeed whose side they will be on.

With a December 2015 release date planned (Or as Darth Vader once said: “Noooooooooo!”) we are in no doubt that some vital info will be drip-fed to an impatient fan base.

…but, if we may be a little more informal with you…the trailer looks AWESOME and we can’t wait!

Mad Max: Road Fury

The once-great Mad Max franchise left us on something of a sour note; the third and seemingly final installment, Beyond The Thunderdome, was…well, awful. Tina Turner screeching all over the place, Max fighting and killing a mentally disabled giant in the Thunderdome…blah blah blah. What a waste!

Both the original and its sequel, The Road Warrior, are undeniable classics of the post-apocalyptic genre. In order for a post-apoc movie to even get on the ladder you need to make sure the visuals are in place. Judging by the trailer, the make-up artists and designers have got it absolutely correct.

The cast is a knockout too. Tom Hardy, still in plenty of credit after stealing the show as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, the Brit takes up the mantle of another legendary anti-hero. Joining him is Charlize Theron and English star Nicholas Hoult. For bonus points, Road Fury is directed by the series’ original helmsman, George Miller!

We’re gonna get all fanboy again here! Bring it on…just make sure you’ve got enough fuel!

Jurassic World

Much like Mad Max, the Jurassic Park franchise suffered immensely from lukewarm films and critical and commercial receptions. In layman’s terms: the two films after the original were utter garbage!

Jurassic Park 3 was the nadir of the series, and this sort-of-sequel/sort-of-remake is hoping to banish the ghosts of past mistakes. Bizarrely, some outlets are running stories from scientists saying that creation of a new dinosaur would be impossible. Guys…it’s a film, chill out!

What can we expect? No doubt long chase scenes, a few explosions here and there and with any luck, a recapturing of the spirit of the 1993 original.

Terminator: Genisys

Hey, remember when you found that magic lamp, you rubbed it and the genie came out and gave you three wishes? And one of your wishes was for a fifth Terminator film? No?

Well, of course that didn’t happen and in reality, would anybody in their right mind would ask for that. But Terminator still exists on the goodwill generated by the first two in the series and the eternal love that Ahnuld Schwarzenegger still generates from movie-goers worldwide.

If you find the trailer a little confusing then don’t worry, ‘cause so do we! It’s a tough one to call: it will probably be terrible but we still really want to see it. Have a peek at the trailer and decide for yourself.

Avengers: Age of Ultron

2012’s Avengers movie was a fun, loud and colorful series of delights that captured the imaginations of children and adults alike. How could you not love Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America and the Black Widow getting together to beat the shit out of Loki?

Like most comic book sequels, Age Of Ultron is going for bigger, bolder, brighter and better. As well as the aforementioned super friends, we will also be introduced to super-siblings Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, Vision and Hawkeye. James Spader voices the titular Ultron, whose resurrection by Tony Stark threatens all of mankind’s existence.

SPECTRE

The new James Bond movie looks set to delve into the series’ rich past and revisit the…erm…spectral SPECTRE and perhaps even one of Bond’s greatest foes: Ernst Blofeld…he who likes to stroke a hairy pussy!

With Daniel Craig returning once more to fill the shiniest of expensive shoes, expect the Bond hype machine to roll into action as the year goes on. And by “Bond hype machine” we mean avalanches of product placement and commercial tie-ins…

Jupiter Ascending

The Wachowski siblings return with what could well be the weirdest blockbuster of 2015.

Starring Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum, the film’s plot…ummm, well…let’s see. We’ll let IMDB do the talking for a second:

“In the future, a young destitute human woman gets targeted for assassination by the Queen of the Universe, and begins her destiny to finish the Queen’s reign.”

Got that? Good. Enjoy!

Absolutely Anything

This is the sad opportunity to see Robin Williams’ last ever turn on the big screen in this Terry Jones directed fantasy-comedy. Simon Pegg plays a teacher granted unlimited abilities and powers by aliens (obviously!), so expect the usual fun, frolics and capers that this type of film allows.

Also along for the ride are Kate Beckinsale and Brit veteran Joanna Lumley.

Ant-Man

This project has languished in the fabled realm of pre-production hell for about 357 years now, and after director Edgar Wright jumped ship it looked like Ant-Man would never leave the nest.

There’s not a great deal of information available, but we do know that both Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas will show their faces in what could be a very off-kilter but surprise smash superhero flick.

The following trailer is a little sketchy, but should give you some idea as to what direction the project is heading.

We’d love to know if we’ve missed any vital upcoming blockbusters out, so let us know!
