If you’re anything like me (and, according to surveys, over 70% of the American population) you constantly worry about your weight. Sometimes it might seem like a dead end, but we’re hopeful and optimistic that we can keep it down; or if we gained some, to get back to that ideal weight we set for ourselves.

The problem is intense exercise and long sets of cardio are not – for most of us – our idea of a good time, and while we sometimes can get on a groove for a stretch, it’s tough to stick to an exercise program that will make us want to come back over and over.

Unless the exercise is sexual, of course.

A lot has been said about sex as exercise. I’m a big proponent of it – as most of my ex-girlfriends would confirm – but a lot of people don’t take it all that seriously (including some of those ex-girlfriends).

There was a study conducted by Antony D. Karelis, a professor of exercise science at the University of Quebec at Montreal, whose conclusions revealed that “energy expenditure during sexual activity appears to be approximately 85 kCal or 3.6 kCal/min and seems to be performed at a moderate intensity (5.8 METS) in young healthy men and women. These results suggest that sexual activity may potentially be considered, at times, as a significant exercise.”

So that’s something! The caveat is, unlike a treadmill at the gym, which gives us an estimate of the calories we’re burning, it’s hard to have an educated guess on how many calories we spend during sex –and who would want to be thinking about that through the process anyway?

Well, UKMedix, a British online pharmacy came up with a solution for this, called The Sex Calculator.

Sex Calculator

Because there are many factors to consider when it comes to our energy expenditure, the site offers different variables to choose from. Gender, body type, positions used, style and an estimated length of intercourse. For instance, say you’re a man with “more cushion for the pushing” having “passionate and intense sex” doggy-style for about 15 minutes, you’d apparently be burning 104.7375 calories. Or maybe you’re a woman with “curves in all the right places” having “frisky and fun” reverse cowgirl sex for 16-29 minutes, then you’d be burning approximately 101.745 calories. I guess if you change positions, which you’ll invariably do in most scenarios, you’d have to add up different calculations, but you can still do it!

While all those decimals can give the idea of a very exact result, it’s obviously never completely accurate. Having said that, it’s a good approximation, and a hell of a lot more fun than the treadmill!

If you’re into self-shaming, bragging or simply over-sharing with all your friends and acquaintances, you can also choose to share your results on Facebook, Twitter or Google+.
