smell

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if you want to know that the person you’re with is the person you should be with, the best thing to do is take a sniff at their armpits or crotch, or both. You see, humans, like all other animals, give off pheromones and it’s these pheromones that attract us to each other.

That’s probably why people find it so hard to meet their true soul mates these days. Who can smell the honest-to-goodness, real person underneath all that scented antiperspirant and expensively bottled, designer olfactory illusions?

No doubt it was with that in mind that a new dating craze was born in LA recently. Forget singles nights and online hook-up sites; it’s time to have a go at Pheromone Parties!

All you have to do is this: sleep in a T-shirt for three days, stick it in a bag and take it to a bar. Then you just let folk take a whiff. If they like what they smell, they’ll have their picture taken holding your bag so you can then go find them and see what happens.

The Pheromone Party is the brainchild of interactive developer and artist Judith Prays, who introduced the concept in Brooklyn in 2010, who told The Daily, “The first time I dated someone for purely physical reasons, it was amazing how well it went…I was so into his smell even when it was objectively nasty. So then I just thought, what if I could choose people by smell?”

The first Pheromone Party to be held in the UK took place in London this week. It probably went down pretty well I should imagine as, generally speaking, a stiff-upper lip makes it real hard to turn your nose up at anything.
