Have you been having Breaking Bad withdrawal syndrome, much like the rest of us? Well then, I’m sure you’ll be glad to hear that Better Call Saul has just premiered on AMC! You favorite attorney at law is now showing up on your television weekly.

If you’re thinking that this is just gonna be a pre-Breaking Bad look at the lives of Jesse Pinkman and Walter White, then you’re wrong. The show start 6 years before the Breaking Bad years and focuses on the life of Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) back when he was still the struggling lawyer Jimmy McGill.

It starts slow, with a lot of stylized shots, but then slowly picks up pace. But don’t expect a breakneck pace. Much like Breaking Bad, they’re taking their time here. Bob Odenkirk is brilliant in BCS. Before the fast-talking criminal attorney in Breaking Bad became what he was in that show, he was Jimmy McGill, down and out of luck, struggling to keep things together.

There were a lot of questions I had about different characters in the show, but they don’t rush to answer them for you, which is fine because it only pulls you into the show more. You get a look at the real Saul and what drives him to do what he does.

And Saul/Jimmy is played in such a likable way that even though he is doing something illegal, you’re somehow still rooting for him – just like how you rooted for Walter White on Breaking Bad. Even though it might seem like I’m drawing parallels between the two shows, don’t expect that that’s what you’ll find when you watch it.

Both shows, as far as I can tell (with only one episode) don’t overlap, yet. Either way, I’m looking forward to catching the rest of the season. This one is firmly on my radar and I don’t believe I will be disappointed!
