Mainstream crossovers are rare for people in the adult industry. Very few performers have been able to do it successfully, and even when it’s happened, the reactions tend to be fairly mixed. I mean, sure, this has started to change in certain circles; some people are a little more open about porn and respectful towards its performers, but the stigma is still very much present everywhere.
The United Kingdom’s embarrassed relationship with anything linked to the adult industry has been very well documented. Legislators and entertainers alike constantly baffle us with prudish attitudes that seem a little outdated — to put it mildly.
It looks like big reality TV shows are clearly not an exception to this.
British TV program X Factor, an American Idol-styled show that was also created by known producer/judge/asshole Simon Cowell, axed former adult actress Brooklyn Blue — who was participating under her own name, Becky Constantinou — after learning that she’d been in porn in the past.
The 24-year-old London native took part in 15 movies in 2013 and 2014 before calling it quits in order to pursue a career in music. Constantinou made it through three rounds of X Factor and was on the shortlist to advance to the “boot camp” part of the show. That was, of course, till a security guard recognized her and outed her.
“The guard came up to me with a knowing smile and said, ‘I know you from somewhere, you’re that Brooklyn girl’,” Constantinou told The Sun. “A few days later, I got a call from the show makers asking if I’d done any modeling and my stage names.
“It was clear I’d been grassed up, but I did my best to dodge the questions,” she continued. “I then had a long think and decided to come clean in an email. They phoned me back to say I’m out. I’m devastated.”
The show all but confirms this was the sole reason of her dismissal.
“After checks, she was told she wouldn’t be going further,” a source from X Factor told the Sun.
“I know X Factor is a family show, but porn shouldn’t define who I am,” Constantinou added. “I was never going to put on a sex show for Simon.”
It’s sad when such high profile people keep hypocritically judging others for having had sex on camera, especially in 2015. But hey, maybe “X Factor” could be the name of the clause to get a former adult performer kicked out for no justifiable reason.
