One of the pleasant surprises I’ve learned about the adult industry while writing for BaDoink has been how supportive everyone seems to be with each other in the business. There’s a lot more camaraderie than I would have ever imagined. Most of them seem to hang out all the time and enjoy each other’s company. It makes sense, I suppose. After all, these are their co-workers – who also likely share similar views when it comes to sex and relationships. Like many people after a long day at the office, porn stars like to unwind and kick back with their friends and work buddies.
If you happen to live in the Los Angeles area, you might also be able to go chill with said porn stars at a discreet location in the San Fernando Valley and watch them perform. Perhaps not “perform” in the way a lot of people would expect, but they’ll sure put on an interesting show for you.
You see, Tuesday nights are PSK nights at Sardo’s Grill and Lounge in Burbank. PSK, naturally, stands for Porn Star Karaoke, a steady occurrence that started casually with a group of friends at Sardo’s back in July of 2003, and has now become the longest running weekly adult industry event. In a business where longevity is not the norm, it’s kind of comforting to see a long-standing tradition firmly in place for over a decade.
The event welcomes performers, producers, crewmembers and curious bystanders alike. Ron Jeremy is a regular, and so are many adult starlets whose music dreams shine for at least one day every week.
Sardo’s owner Seymour Satin happens to be very proud of the PSK nights, as there was a considerable lack of industry-centered events that were open to the public. This has given porn stars a place to relax and get together in a place where fans can interact with them and watch them do something they also love. The bar is usually packed with all kinds of people who come for the drinks, songs, good times and of course porn stars.
The big names you might see at PSK nights are not limited to porn. Ron Jeremy told Grantland about some celebrity friends he’s brought on occasion, including Richard Dreyfuss, Flavor Flav and Mickey Rourke. “They all had a great time. They all want to come back!” he added.
Obviously, since it’s a bar, nudity is not allowed. But who knows? Maybe after a badass Journey rendition, you can charm your way into a cute starlet and follow PSK with one of the many more suited places in the Valley where nakedness is not only allowed but encouraged.
PSK kicks off every Tuesday at Sardo’s at 9 pm.
