James Franco To Star In New HBO Porn Drama

Even after the debacle that surrounded the release of The Interview, James Franco seems immune to unemployment.

Irritation is his strong suit” said one of the leaked Sony emails in regards to test screenings of the studio’s infamous movie about the assassination of Kim Jong-un. Without Franco – his bosses went on to say – the character of Dave Skylark “could have been appealing and funny out of his hands.” Not the most radioactive of glowing endorsements.

Yet Franco remains popular. And to think people dismiss the Illuminati completely out of hand.

HBO have deemed him worthy enough of taking the lead role in their upcoming porn industry drama, The Deuce. David Simon – creator of The Wire and Treme – will helm the project, with Breaking Bad executive producer Michelle MacLaren mooted to take the director’s chair.

The Deuce aims to be a gritty series that chronicles the fast-and-loose world of porn in 70s and 80s Manhattan. It plans to capture the industry during a strong flourish before the rise of HIV and various misdeeds caused the scene to tumble into a black hole.

Despite having reservations about the project when it was first explored, the prolific and popular writer said: “”Porn, prostitution, pimps, the Mob, after-hours nightlife, institutional corruption, and New York in its Wild West heyday … it’s a world rich in character, and a fascinating story we’re eager to tell.”

By the way, you might have to be a fairly staunch fan of Franco to become a regular viewer. With him playing twins, you’ll get more Franco than you perhaps bargained for. Perhaps he got the wrong idea when HBO told him he would be assured double penetration…
