We’ve come a long way since the invention of the first sex toys. In more recent times, we’ve seen them develop and revolutionize sexual culture. Today, it might be your chance to write your own name in the sex toy history books.
Online sex toy retailer Lovehoney is hosting once again its very successful ‘Design a Sex Toy’ competition; an open contest that welcomes new up-and-coming designers who may be interested in developing their own sex toy blueprint. Some of these are simple twists on classic models; others are unique out-of-the-box creations. The company embraces both.
“This competition is great fun. We get to look at some fantastic designs from some very talented people that would otherwise never get seen.” Lovehoney’s Co-owner Richard Longhurst said. “You don’t have to have any experience in design to enter. We’re just looking for fresh ideas that stand out from the crowd.”
Indeed, you don’t need to be an engineer or have an impressive technical knowledge of sex toys. They’re basically looking for good, innovative concepts. To put it in the company’s own words: “Design your sex toy by scribbling on a napkin, modeling with Play-Doh or using a computer graphics program — we don’t care!”
You can enter the contest in three different categories: Sex toys for men, sex toys for women and sex toys for couples. The winner of each of those will receive $1,500, and the judges’ pick (only one of them) will collect an extra $3,000. The biggest prize, though, may be that all three winners will also get their toy made and they can earn uncapped royalties on their sales.
Previous winners have managed to make a lot of money in the past. 2009’s victor – an Irishman named Trev Murphy – has earned more than $150,000 in royalties from his very successful Sqweel Oral Sex Simulator.
