Easy Lubricants!
Lately, it seems, there is much talk about what is a healthy lubricant to use when masturbating. Thus, I thought I would share a few ideas. Most oils that you can buy at the grocery store can make good lubricants as well. Olive Oil is good if you don't mind smelling like a salad, but you can also use almond oil and plain vegetable oil. Many people use lotion for lubricant as well, but some types of lotions are too harsh for your genitals, so it is a good idea to pay attention to your body's response to it. For those who like something that is more like a lotion-type of lubricant that is home-made and for use by people with sensitive skin, I also found this handy recipe by Greta Magdelina on a home-made lubricant:
2 tablespoons coconut oil
1 tablespoon almond oil
1 400 mg capsule of vitamin e oil
1/4 teaspoon shea butter
1 tablespoon aloe vera gel
The Shea butter and Coconut oil are solid oils so you have to melt them. Gently heat the whole mixture in the microwave by heating for 5 or 10 seconds and check to see if its is melted. Repeat until the coconut oil and shea butter are melted. Keep in the fridge as the aloe vera gel will go bad. Heat it in the microwave before you use it. (we have electric baseboard heating so put it on the heater for 30 minutes before the fun commences) I typically make a new batch ever 3 or 4 days.
NOTES
- most big supermarkets now carry coconut oil - it is a solid oil and pretty hard until melted and mixed with other oils. If you cannot find it at you local supermarket try health food stores.
- you can also use other oils instead of almond oil - I have also tried olive oil and canola oil. I have seen hemp oil in oil based lubes as well. Somebody suggested castor oil which is know for its healing properties - castor oil is very thick so if you try it make sure to use it with a lighter oil.
- shea butter can be hard to find - check your local health food store or try online - it is expensive but has natural healing properties. If you cannot find it it is not the end of the world just make the lube without it.
- use Aloe Vera gel - it has a thick jelly like consistency. Check health food stores for it. Do not use the thinner Aloe Vera liquid - its too thin.
- cocoa butter is also used in some oil based lubricants - I have not tried it as I cannot find a local supply of it.
- for massage oil skip the Aloe Vera gel - its water based and just makes things feel cold.
Warnings
1) if you experience sensitivities or discomfort stop using the lube!
2) oil based lubes do not wash out as easily as water based lubricants so be careful - you may want to put a towel down
3) make it up fresh and keep it in the fridge - heat it in the microwave before use to warm it up
This is the first time that I've heard of using castor oil in personal lubricant, so I'm going to have to look up more about its uses very soon. Please be advised that with any lubricant, you pay attention to the reactions that your body is having to it. Wait until you are no longer aroused and check for signs of rash or irritation that might be excessive in relation to the activity you were doing. (During arousal and for a short time after sex, you may still have a rash-like blushing called 'sex flush' - that's normal and happens to everybody so wait until after you've recovered from orgasm before taking note of your body's reaction to the lubricant).
