Penthouse and Passarella Death Squad will continue their recent collaboration with the news that their joint-venture art exhibition – Videodrome – will take up residency in Danish capital Copenhagen until July 2nd.
Passarella Death Squad – the Anglo-Japanese fashion label – has created sixteen exclusive artworks and five T-shirts for Penthouse. Utilizing prints from deep within the Penthouse archives, each model’s image has been photographed, cropped and “doctored” by designer Danny Passarella to construct an image that merges the two brands to achieve an “avant-garde” effect.
“While considering this project I was especially compelled by the allure of the hidden, so I wanted people to look a bit deeper than they normally would at a Penthouse image,” said Danny. “Normally it’s the figure and the nudity that people notice. I wanted to draw viewers to the human being in the picture, and for the treatments to provoke a range of emotions beyond lust alone.”
The exhibition and its subsequent success shows that while mainstream acceptance of pornography and sexualized imagery is still sought-after, this mixture of the adult biz and avant-garde art finds two peripheral genres making perfect bedfellows.
The exhibition will decamp at STORM – a benchmark for retail fashion worldwide. The ‘Videodrome’ exhibition premiered at Unit 44 in Newcastle, UK on April 2nd in partnership with END. retail store and again in London, UK at Blackall Studios in SoHo. Following its tenure at STORM, the exhibition will move to Brussels, Belgium for the remainder of July 2015.
