What is about sports stars and getting arrested all the time? You’d think earning millions might make you a little more chilled. Apparently not…

Rubin “Hurricane” Carter

Immortalized by a popular Bob Dylan song and a blockbuster movie, Carter was wrongly accused of a triple homicide in 1966. After serving almost two decades of his original life sentence, he was released in 1985.

Ugueth Urbina

The hot-headed relief pitcher served almost half of his 14 year sentence for trying to burn five farm workers alive on his property in his native Venezuela, putting an end to his Major League career.

Mike Tyson

One of the most powerful boxers of all-time, Iron Mike is no stranger to the judicial system. He was convicted in 1992 for the rape of Miss Black Rhode Island, Desiree Washington, in an Indianapolis hotel. Tyson was released after three of his six year sentence.

O.J. Simpson

Perhaps not in jail for the crime he’s most famous for. He was acquitted in 1994 for the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. Unfortunately for Simpson, this might have played a part in the sentence for a second trial, this time in 2007 for armed robbery and kidnapping. ‘The Juice’ was sentenced to 33 years, with a minimum of nine without parole.

Michael Vick

The troubled quarterback was implicated in an illegal interstate dog fighting ring in 2007. He served 21 months in prison, and two more months in home confinement. He managed to make a comeback to the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2009.

Marion Jones

The former world champion track and field athlete was sentenced to six months in jail for check fraud and perjury on her use of performance-enhancing drugs.

Pete Rose

The all-time Major League leader in hits was sentenced to five months in jail in 1990, after filing false income tax returns. Shortly after, Rose was deemed ineligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame amidst accusations that he gambled on baseball games.

Plaxico Burress

In 2008, the popular wide receiver took ‘infamous’ to a whole new level when he was sentenced to two years in prison for accidentally shooting himself and carrying a concealed weapon

Rae Carruth

The former Carolina Panthers wide receiver was convicted for having his then-pregnant girlfriend shot and killed. His son survived and was born with special needs. Carruth is expected to be released in 2018.

Allen Iverson

In 1993, at the age of 17, Iverson was convicted as an adult in his native Virginia for starting a racial fight in a local bowling alley. He was granted clemency after four months, and the following year attended Georgetown, on his way to a very successful NBA career.
