Yes, I fucking bought this. I bought it today when I was looking for Bart’s recommended Red Hare 20th Anniversary. This is Rogue Voodoo Doughnut; a Chocolate, Peanut Butter & Banana Ale. It is a fruit/vegetable beer, although I’d consider it a malty brown ale by its flavor. And it comes in an Easter Bunny PINK bottle. They might as well have put it in a bottle that looks like one of my cock drawings.
5.3% ABV
Odor: Smells like tootsie rolls. The odor is pleasant but it’s not beer. It’s TOOTSIE ROLLS, a candy that has so many chemicals and preservatives in it that it will be preserved through a nuclear fallout holocaust like cockroaches (or Indiana Jones in a fucking fridge).
Pours beautifully. DARK brown (almost black like JTM). Thick, velvety caramel head (no homo).
Lacing: I always, ALWAYS avoid talking about lacing because it’s supposedly a sign of a good beer, but I vehemently disagree. Lacing has never been proven to be directly proportional to how good a beer tastes to me. But if you’re into that shit, then this beer has some sticky, thick lacing.
Flavor: starts off with a banana sweetness then transforms into a very malty and yeasty flavor with chocolate (TOOTSIE ROLLS) and peanut butter tone. It has an overall pastry flavor to it, but it definitely has the flavor of beer there. Due to its low ABV it has a bit of a watered down flavor to it, but it does have the perfect combination of carbonation and slightly sticky mouth-feel (NO HOMO). Very drinkable. It tastes good. It leaves a bitter metallic aftertaste that isn’t very good; but since I like bitter beers it’s tolerable until several minutes later, then I get sick for it. It doesn’t compliment the beer well. If it kept rolling with the malt or if it had a hoppy aftertaste, it would be much more acceptable.
I’m not a huge fan of fruit/vegetable beers but this is actually pretty decent. I like it. I’m glad I bought it. But I won’t be buying it again. The aftertaste starts to “rot” in my mouth and it makes me want to take a swig of whiskey…and then jerk off to JENYA.
Style: Not sure how to rate this style because Fruit/Vegetable beers are all over the fucking place with their flavors and this is very experimental… so: 6.5/10
Overall: 6.5/10… If the aftertaste didn’t taste like I just licked DESTRO’s fucking head I’d give it a 7 (no homo).
