The only thing sexier than a father with his child, especially if his child is a daughter, is a man with a man purse. Not a pocketbook or a fanny pack, but the now popular “man purse” or “murse”.

Purses were originally designed for men more than 5,000 years ago but were made obsolete in the 18th and 19th centuries. As men’s pants were designed with large and sturdy pockets, the need for carrying around a purse declined. Coins, keys and other small items could be held in small coin pouches and carried comfortably in trouser pockets.

Now fast forward to the 21st century. The modern man is not wearing trousers with oversized pockets, nor is he merely carrying around coins and a single key. Today’s man has as many particulars to keep track of as the average woman. A ring full of keys, identification and credit cards, chap-stick perhaps, cellular telephones and other technological devices…  The back pocket is no longer enough.

The man purse is the answer. There are so many choices on the market these days; everything from the old school messenger bag to casual to chic to middle of the road. The diagonal strap, when worn properly, across a man’s back is a flattering line. It accentuates the span and or length of his body.

The lack of wallet bump on a man’s ass reveals the symmetry of design that was clearly intended. The choice of the bag can say so much about the man wearing it and, perhaps most importantly, there is a contained place for the important things, which eliminates the daily search when there are places to be and people to see.

My husband recently came home with a man purse. Simple, black, strong and dependable.  When he walked through the door and our three-year-old daughter went running into his arms; well, lets just say, swoon is not a strong enough word!
