What better place to go looking for answers than the Archives of Sexual Behavior? 293 women were asked to complete two surveys: one about their sex lives, and another about their mental state of mind. The researchers then measured seminal plasma circulating in the women’s systems and compared it against their survey data.

“I wouldn’t want to miss out on an opportunity of wild sex with a stranger while stuck in a slow elevator…”

Yes, I know – safety first! But at times we need to get clingy. I know I wouldn’t want to miss out on an opportunity of wild sex with a stranger while stuck in a slow elevator just because I don’t have a condom on me. And most women who filled out the survey must have agreed with me as the results showed that saying no to a condom meant you suffered fewer depressive symptoms.

A blow job without that rubber is not only a turn on but apparently it’s also beneficial to the brain, a perfect elixir with a particular mix that can only be found in semen. We find what we call “mood-altering chemicals”. Cortisol, which is linked to affection; oxytocin, which elevates mood; and serotonin with antidepressant properties.

Another group of 196 women were asked to participate in research on how frequently they masturbated and had sex and how frequently they had the desire to do both. I just assumed women with higher testosterone levels would have more desire to have sex. But that is not the case.  They have more desire to masturbate. They have less desire to share their sexual fantasies with their partner. So, yes, guys, she’s horny but not for you!

Let’s not forget about women with prominent upper-lip tubercles – that little spot at the midline of the upper lip. They have a better chance at having vaginal orgasms, says the Journal of Sexual Medicine, which asked 258 women about the shape of their lips as well as their ability to experience a vaginal orgasm. Climax? It may boil down to what happens before birth. “Whatever shapes a fetus’s tubercle may also shape the same neural circuits that affect vaginal orgasm by the time that fetus grows into a woman,” says co-author Rui Miguel Costa, M.A., a grad student at the University of the West of Scotland.

If your lover is Dutch he may well know that socks play a key role when it comes to your “Orgasm-face”. A study has confirmed proper temperature environment is a must. “At the beginning of our trials, only 50 percent of our female subjects were able to reach orgasm,” says study author Gert Holstege, M.D., Ph.D., chairman of the center for uroneurology at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. “But we learned they were uncomfortable because they had cold feet. We gave them socks, and 80 percent reached orgasm.” The magic behind the socks? In order to calm her amygdala and prefrontal cortex—the brain areas responsible for anxiety, fear, and danger signals—you need to create a pleasant environment that makes her feel safe, secure, and comfortable,” Holstege explained.
